As Pelletier Builders celebrates its 50th year in business, we want to share with you one of our most exciting projects: the state-of-the-art 19,000 sq. ft. Swiss Cleaners facility in historic Vernon, CT.
Swiss Cleaners is a fourth-generation, family owned business that has served Northcentral Connecticut residents since 1913.
Swiss Cleaners approached Pelletier Builders about constructing a state-of-the-art, energy efficient central facility. Pelletier worked with a local architectural agency on the design and layout of the facility.
The Swiss Cleaners facility accepts, processes, and cleans clothing and other materials brought in from all eight Swiss Cleaners locations in Northcentral Connecticut. It is imperative to move clothing through each step of the process to return orders to customers throughout Connecticut in a timely manner.
Each aspect of the facility was designed for a specific purpose. The roof features 600 solar panels across the 20,000 sq. ft. roof to drive sustainable and renewable energy. The building itself centers around a large boiler that drives the entire process. The boiler was installed first and then the walls were erected around it. The building frame was custom engineered to hold the large conveyor system which weaves through the building, as it must support the heavy track and the heavy clothing on that track.
Safety is paramount in a dry-cleaning facility. Pelletier Builders constructed a fireproof barrier linking the new facility with the smaller, older facility to ensure employee safety.
The Swiss Cleaners team is so proud of their new facility that they documented the entire building and construction process in a series of blog posts last year. Visit their blog to view all posts.
